MATW PROJECT

He did not do any good deeds for an entire lifetime!

As-salam wa-alaikum MATW Family!

You know, there is one hadith that always strikes me every single time I read it. I have mentioned it in so many talks and Khutbas, and I love it so much.

Check this out:

On the authority of Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

A man from among those who were before you were called to account. Nothing in the way of good was found for him except that he used to have dealings with people and, being well-to-do, he would order his servants to let off the man in straitened circumstances from repaying his debt. He (the Prophet PBUH) said that Allah said: “We are worthier than you of that of being so generous. Let him off.”

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and an-Nasa’i).

So let’s break this one down together. There was a businessman who used to sell things to people, so they would owe him money for the goods they bought.

This businessman was a terrible Muslim! He did not do a single good deed in his entire life. When he was brought to account on the day of judgement “nothing in the way of good deeds was found for him” – So he did not do any good deeds for an entire lifetime. Subhan Allah, what kind of man is this! There is one exception though. When someone owed him money, and he knew that the person was broke and couldn’t pay him, he would tell his staff to cancel the debt and not worry about it.

That was the only good deed that he did in his life…

So when he arrived in front of Allah SWT on the day of judgement, suddenly the tables were turned. Allah SWT told the man, that because he would forgive people who were broke and had nothing to give, Allah SWT is kinder, more forgiving, and more generous than that man. So on this day, the day of judgement, the seller himself is broke, but Allah SWT being the Most Generous, forgave him and allowed him to enter paradise. Subhan Allah, it’s almost impossible to believe this hadith honestly.

So let’s think together if Allah SWT can be this generous and forgiving to a man with no good deeds whatsoever besides one, what about for you and me? What about if you are making a regular donation to the poor of the world? The orphan children? The disabled in Bangladesh? The helpless in Lebanon? Click here to find out more!

If Allah SWT treated this man int his fashion when he had no good deeds, how do you think he will treat you if you are a regular donor for MATW Project? Subhan Allah, we can only hope and imagine 😊 Accumulate your good deeds here!
